Skills Development Course for Emergency Medicine MMed candidates had been successfully carried out on 8th and 9th December 2012 at Conference Room of Ambulatory Care Centre at Hospital Kuala Lumpur. A total of 60 MMed students participated. Among the speakers were Prof. Dato’ Sri Abu Hassan Asaari Abdullah, Professor Shahid from UPM Medical Education Unit, Dr Sabariah Faizah Jamaluddin, Assoc. Prof Mohd Idzwan Zakaria from UM, Dr Alzamani Mohammad Idrose from HKL, Dr Johan and Dr Fadzlon from UKM
The fees for the course was RM 250 per person. However the cost was covered by the Ministry of Health. The co-ordinators for the course were Assoc Prof Mohd Idzwan Zakaria and Dr Alzamani Mohammad Idrose. The course was well received and positive comments were gathered from the feedback by the participants.

The course was successfully conducted on 13th and 14th December 2012 at HKL auditorium. The course was designed to prepared candidates who choose Emergency Medicine as their specialty of the future. A total of 137 Medical Officers attended the course.

3.Pre-Interview Assessment for Emergency Medicine (PIAEM) Examination 2012
The PIAEM examination is an assessment for all aspiring candidates for Emergency Medicine MMed programme. It was designed in the form of MCQ true and false questions. No passing marks were set but the examination results would rank the candidates apart from forming 40% of overall score for selection of MMed students. The examination took place at Hospital Sungai Buloh on 15th December 2012. However 7 did not turn up for the examination despite paying the fees.
The co-ordinators for the examination were Assoc Prof Dr. Nik Hishamuddin and Dr Mahathar Abdul Wahab. This is the first time candidates had to sit for exam in order to participate in the Emergency Medicine MMed programme. This had to be carried out in view of the overwhelming candidates interested to be Emergency Physicians, making this programme as the most popular choice among applicants of MMed programmes.

4.Critical Analysis of Bus Accidents at Awana Genting
National Security Council(NSC) under the Prime Minister’s Department, with the co-operation of Malaysian Society for Traumatology and Emergency Medicine (MASTEM) and Genting Highlands Resort is organizing this conference to address all issues related to bus accidents. The course was supported by College of Emergency Physicians, Academy of Medicine, Malaysia. This conference will gather experts from the country’s top relevant agencies to dissect and discuss all issues related to bus accidents and recommend the way forward for the country. The two-day conference took place on 25 & 26th JUNE 2012. Expert panelists from various agencies such as NSC, MIROS, SPAD, Road Safety Department, Home Ministry, Road Transport Department and MEDICAL experts from Ministry of Health, UKM Medical Centre, USM Hospital and UM Medical Centre will deliberate on various issues pertaining to safety and preventive measures by analyzing incidents of bus crashes that had occurred in the past and provide recommendations for safer bus as well as comprehensive emergency response for the future. 300 participants who were mainly first responders from various agencies such as Fire and Rescue Department, the Police and Ministry of Health took part in this conference.The main corporate sponsor for this event is Genting Highlands Resort Bhd.The Deputy Minister in Prime Minister’s Department, YB Datuk Liew Vui Keong officiated the conference. A live demonstration on mass casualty incidence response was held in conjunction with the programme. It is hoped that this conference will pave the way towards better prevention and sterling management of any bus crash incidents in the future.
